U-Turns
There are four ways to do this manoeuvre, I will really only cover three of them as the forth is done in a crossroads and is done in the same manner as the right-hand U-Turn.
Left-hand U-Turn
1. Approach the left hand intersection as if you were going to turn left, indicating left and close to the curb.
2. Turn into the road keeping close to the curb, as soon as you are moving into the intersection start indicating right.
3. Once the car is fully in the road start turning right, and proceed to the give way making sure you do not hit the curbs. If there is any traffic approaching from down the road you will need to continue down the road and find somewhere else to turn around.
4. Continue to indicate right, have a good look all around to make sure the road you are going back into is clear, giving way to all traffic.
5. Proceed with care.
Right-hand U-Turn
1. Approach the right hand intersection as if you were going to turn right, indicating right and close to the center line (if there is no line move close to where it would be, in the center). Make sure you go past the road a little before you turn in, you want to make as much use of the extra width at the mouth of the intersection as you can, this will in effect give you a wider road.
2. Once you are in the right-hand road you may need to turn back in briefly (Left) to get more depth, not too much though. Once the car is fully in the road start turning right again and proceed with care, watching you don't hit the curb. Again, if there is any traffic approaching from down the road you will need to continue down the road and find somewhere else to turn around.
3. Once you are crossing the center line start to indicate left and make sure you obey any Give Way or STOP signs.
4. Have a good look all around to make sure the road you are going back into is clear, make sure you use a shoulder check, giving way to all traffic already on the road.
5. Proceed with care.
T-Junction U-Turn
1. Approach the intersection over at the left hand side of the road, indicating right, have a good look for traffic remembering to give way to all cars.
2. When the road is clear move out nice and straight (do not turn left into the road).
3. Once you are over the line (or the center of the road if there is no line) turn sharply right, ideally you want to be resting just the other side of the line as if you were turning right from that road.
Have a good look around for traffic, including a shoulder check.
4. When clear proceed back into the road you came from continuing to indicating right.
5. Proceed with care.
