  1. Indicate left as you approach the vehicle.
  2. Pull up next to the parked car, no more than 1 metre away.
  3. Line yourself (person not car) with the parked car's front wheel.
2. Start reversing.
  1. Put the car in reverse
  2. IMPORTANT: Do NOT reverse if there are any vehicles behind you (stationary or approaching) unless they are unable to pass and have left plenty of room.
  3. Check your mirrors and your blind spot.
  4. When clear turn to look out the rear window and start reversing, keep the car moving slowly.
3. Turn the front out.
  1. When the back of the parked car is in the rear passenger window quickly turn the wheel anti-clockwise as far as it will go.
  2. Now turn the wheel clockwise until your wheels are straight.

4. Reverse into the space.
  1. Reverse in a straight line until you are near (1m) the kerb (see 7b & 7c).
5. Turn the car in
  • Once you are near the kerb(1m) turn the wheel clockwise as far as it will go.
  • Keep checking both front and back to make sure you don't hit other parked cars.
  • Just before the car is straight, start to straighten the wheels.
  • Stop when the car is straight
  • 6. Final Check.
    1. Check your distance from the cars in front and behind (1-2m).
    2. Check your distance from the kerb (No more than 0.5m).
    3. Check your car is straight.
    4. Check you are inside the lines (where relevant).
    7. Practice
    1. Find another car and try again - This skill can take a while to perfect.
    2. If you keep hitting the kerb don't go back straight for so long (4a).
    3. If you keep ending up too far from the kerb turn in later (5a).
    4. If you just can't get it contact your local driving school. If you live in Toowoomba, that's me!! (0414) 352 697
